Personality:
Bolin is something of a perpetual bumbler with good intentions. As ever Bolin is still a kid with a big heart, but with the updates that Book 2 provided we also see that Bolin is also has a long way to go before he's mature. His actions throughout have shown the face of a kid who hasn't yet figured himself out but might be finally heading in the right direction. He's still incredibly naïve and has trouble hiding what he's really thinking from others. This means he's a terrible liar and also that he easily gets fooled by people he's decided that he can trust. This happens time and time again and honestly, his instincts for when he's being hustled are terrible for a kid who grew up on the streets and has known actual gangsters.
Ever the character with plenty of enthusiasm, Bolin tends to approach situations with big expectations for how everything is going to be awesome, the same goes for people. He's naïve enough to expect the best out of a person from the get go and tends to cling to his first impressions even when something inside him tells him that something is not right. When he meets people he thinks are good like Korra, Toza and Varrick he sticks by them even when it doesn't always work out. Because of his good feeling about Toza, Bolin and Mako got a chance at a better life. Becoming friends with Korra made him a part of bigger things and got him a friend for life. Varrick... got his brother arrested and tried to kidnap the president. Which only goes to prove that his judgment can be kind of awful sometimes.
He follows his whims, things like dating a teammate on the eve of one of the biggest pro bending matches of their life, and throws himself into things even if they end of burning him in the end. Where Mako thinks in the long term, Bolin is someone who lives in the moment and tends to never think too far ahead. Because of this lack of responsibility he tends to come off as really immature when serious situations strike. Such as during The Revelation when he genuinely believed that he could help raised 30,000 yuans by having Pabu perform circus tricks. It isn’t that he’s purposefully being silly or immature, but that he was never given an opportunity to realize that some childish schemes just don’t work out in the real world.
One of Bolin's biggest flaws is the fact that he acts before he thinks things through and jumps to conclusions that just aren't there. In Book 1 this comes from the fact that one date with Korra made him think that they had progressed past friends, leading to his massive tantrum when Korra and Mako kissed. Similarly he jumped into a relationship with Eska without listening to anyone's advice because everyone knew she was crazy. He's still an immature kid who tries to avoid conflict rather than confront it, even when it makes things harder on him in the long run.
In spite of his naïve nature, Bolin is very good at working a crowd and understanding the right way to get a group of people going, a skill he's shown on multiple occasions in the show. At heart he's a guy who loves the spotlight and can see what he needs to do in order to keep people happy. In the smaller scale, he's less good. He doesn't know quite how to handle people one on one and will often blurt out the first thing that comes to mind even if it's pretty inappropriate to the setting. However, more than anything he just wants to help people out and make sure everyone is happy. He goes out of his way to cheer up his friends and support them, even when it means he ends up getting left behind.
☆INTERSTELLAR
Choice Instrument: Vocals, Percussion, Bass
Rockstar Persona: Overall, Bolin's star persona won't be vastly different from his existing personality. The biggest change will be the loss of culture from his world as well as his inclination to jump in and try and change the world personally. He ends up veering into tendencies of being selfish a bit self-centered, caught up in the sensation of being someone important. He still wants to make a difference but that's shifted from saving the world to helping out at charities rather than sticking himself in the middle of things. More often he's concerned with his popularity rankings and looking up what people might be saying about his latest performance. He's materialistic and puts a lot of weight on the worth of his possessions and tends to namedrop them to emphasize that he's not some poor kid from the streets anymore.
Bolin's star story is a popular one that his managers to love to sell to the fans: a rags to riches tale. He grew up poor and would have stayed that way if someone hadn't spotted his talents and pulled him up out of the mire and into the spotlight. And now that he's had a taste of the high life he's not too willing to go back to his old lifestyle. His backstory is rather vague as to where he came from but he maintains a good image. He uses his tragic background as a streetkid to earn himself credit and prove that he isn't some manufactured star.
He's quite vain as well, maintaining a strong social media presence dedicated to pictures of himself a frequent updates about his day. He's a serial dater as well, always seeming to be on the prowl for the next Miss Right, though the relationships never quite seem to last and no one really can remember their names. But one thing has stayed true from his previous life: he loves his fans. He always takes the time to sign autographs whenever he has a chance.
Ideal CR: I'd love for Bolin to find a feeling of family among his band and establish friendships among his peers. Maybe give him an opportunity to step up and be the big brother figure for once.

The sudden change in pace from between home and Luceti was jarring. Even with the benefit of having over a year of experience in the tiny village under his belt it was hard to adjust again after being back home in Republic City. Walking through Luceti didn't take more than an hour if he went slow, the scale of everything was just radically different. Bolin couldn't help being a little bored even with all the things he knew he could do. It was the lack of options. Being famous had been kind of lonely but it had also kept him busy. There were always new scenes to shoot or interviews to do or at the very least one of Varrick's new hobbies to spectate. There was always something new around the corner.
Walking through the village, Bolin could name each business off in his head, he'd been gone for months but had come back in just a few days. There wasn't really any excitement, and new buildings only appeared every so often.
Not that he wasn't ungrateful for the break from having to help save the world, that stuff was terrifying when he thought too much about it. Pretending to thwart Unalaq's waterbending doomsday device was a lot easier when he was Nuktuk than when they were facing down real doom in the spirit world. Mostly because of the whole actual lack of danger. Except for the possible danger of getting slapped by Ginger.
“Man, buddy... I'm gonna go crazy if we don't find something new to do.” He said to Pabu idly. The fire ferret didn't say anything back, unfortunately. “...This would be a lot easier if you spoke like Juji does in the movers, you know.” Though... a thought clicked into place with a potential cure for his back to Luceti blues.
In a flash he was running off to the item shop with a goal in mind. Not twenty minutes later he emerged with a few film canisters and a projector he'd found on a back shelf and an idea for how to shake things up a little. Everyone loved a good Mover Night after all.
